Wire Headbands

In our first Millinery lesson, we learnt how to make headband, how to measure a head properly as well as the proper way it should sit on a head. I found this process quite fiddly and hard to mold the wire to the head. Overall, I loved the final piece and would like to add details to the headband and fabric on top.

Cabochon Rose

Today we learnt how to create a Cabochon rose. I loved creating this using a recycled denim jacket and then layering a mesh fabric on top of a glittery dotted white fabric. I also found this process easy and would definitely create it again.

Berets

In today’s session, we created patterns to create a Beret. I found this quite a hard process as we had to create our own unique shape and then cut it out. We then drafted it onto calico. This is when I came across the problem where my ends didn’t join up. Next time, I would just do the basic pattern to see if I could do it then I would try more complex shapes.

Sinamay

In our last Millinery lesson, we created Hats using Sinamay. I really enjoyed this process where we chose the colours of the sinamay and then put then on a clingfilmed head and steamed it to make the Sinamay moldable. It was easy to create and next time I would make the hat a bit smaller then add things on top.
