Narnia at Newstead

For our Narnia project we were split into different groups to make different garments. I was in the robe section and decided to make a robe from the coronation scene in Narnia for an adult size 14. I started this project by draping scrap fabric over a size 14 mannequin and pinning in darts and where I wanted panels. next I drafted the skirt and once I got the shape I was able to take it off the mannequin and create a mock up of the dress using other spare fabrics. This process took a while as I sewed some of the panels on wrong and needed to shift them downwards. Once I was happy, I then washed my calico and dyed it 2 different shades of green at home. I then sewed it together and left an open back with ties to make it easier for people to slip on and off but to still give it the royal robe feel.  I then used skills from my degree last year and used the embroidery room to do braiding foot embroidery as well as the embellishing machine to felt the flowers. I'm really pleased with how this turned out

Housewife 49'

For this project we watched the film housewife 49 and were then given each others designs to make. My partner was Amelia and we had a sit down before starting to discuss how she wants it to be made and what sort of fabrics she was thinking of.

After making the toile and trying it on Amelia, I had to make some changes before going to my real fabrics. With my real fabric, I ran out of the red colour so had to go back and buy more metres of it however, Hobbycraft had run out of that type so I had to start over and change my colours but I'm happy I did as I feel the colours match the piece more.

Overall, I'm so happy with how the piece turned out especially as it was my first time making something to fit someone. If I was to do this project again I would time manage better and get more help when I got stuck. I would also make the bows slightly smaller to make them more like the design but Amelia and I discussed the bows before adding it and decided that the bows being big makes it look more playful and fun.
