What is Architecture?

  • provides a physical environment in which we live

  • responds to societies functional needs

  • part art and part science

  • powerful reflection of human culture

Functional Needs= entertainment e.g. the Colosseum Rome

Connectivity= bridges e.g. Golden Gate

Landscapes= connect to environment e.g. Nature

Shelter= e.g. Birds nests

Structure= e.g. buildings and clothes

Frame= e.g. John Lewis department store Leicester

Movement

Music

Shape= e.g. underskirt of a dress

I enjoyed Zaha Hadid's video and how their work is trying now to move to a more sustainable approach.
